Classification

Outdoor apparel / gorpcore-adjacent fashion brand using a mountaineering narrative. Not a transparent technical mountaineering-gear manufacturer. This is supported by their own membrane partner (Sympatex) listing them under "Market: Apparel."

The Obfuscation Stack

This isn't one red flag. It's a stack of reinforcing opacity mechanisms.

Hidden
WHOIS identity shielded. Domain registered via Contact Privacy Inc. No disclosed owner, company name, or address. Just a Shopify store behind a privacy wall.
Locked
Store password-gated. Every product URL redirects to a "BACK SOON" countdown with an "EARLY ACCESS" email grab. You can't verify products, prices, specs, returns, or legal policies.
Stolen
Product photos taken from Arc'teryx and Montane. Multiple community threads document identical model, pose, and equipment — with just the jacket color digitally changed.
Sourced
Products match $5–6 Alibaba listings. Their hat ($5.80 on Alibaba), gloves ($5.58 on Alibaba) — identical silhouette, stitching, and cut. Just a different logo.
Unverified
"We do R&D" and "names registered internationally." Both claimed in DMs when confronted. No public lab reports, test protocols, or trademark registrations found in any searchable database. They use ™ (unregistered), not ® (registered).
Unverified
"We test everything we build ourselves." Self-claim on password page. No third-party test data. No certifications. The partner page discusses jacket design and embroidery — not test regimes.
Narrative
"Two friends climbing Manaslu in their own gear." Consistent across store and partner copy. Not independently verified as an achieved ascent.

Their "Response" — 20 min of talking, nothing answered

ManasluClo put out a video called "Reviewing Manaslu Gear — What Broke, What Didn't." It's a polished R&D walkthrough. Prototypes on a table, fabric specs, iteration stories. Cool. But none of that is what people were asking about.

Ignored
Why did you use stolen Arc'teryx photos on your store? Same model, same pose, jacket color changed. If you have real prototypes like the video shows, why did you need to steal photos?
Ignored
Why are your hat and gloves identical to $5 Alibaba listings? Same shape, same stitching, same cut. The video goes on about custom fabrics and Sympatex membranes but never mentions the stuff that's obviously just resold.
Ignored
Why did you lock your store when people started asking questions? In the video they say "always stay curious, ask us about every single thing." In reality you get a countdown timer and blocked if you push back.
Ignored
Why is your WHOIS hidden? The video talks about transparency and building trust. Meanwhile you can't even find out who owns the website.
Ignored
Where are the certifications? They say "certification is not marketing, it's destructive testing that ensures your safety is guaranteed." That's about helmets they don't even sell yet. What about the jackets and pants and gloves you actually sell? Nothing. No test data anywhere.
Ignored
Why were AI detectors flagging your product images? We ran their photos through multiple detectors. Theirs scored 89% AI. The original Montane photo? 96% real. Same detector. They didn't bring this up once.

They also tell people in DMs that this site is "being paid for by big brands to put them out of the market." Nobody pays for this. We're just people who climb. The video dodged every single question.
